Catahoula Leopard Dog: AKA Hog Dogs.

What are your experiences with them?

Looks like a specialized southern breed. Found one crossed with Great Dane at a shelter up here. Too big for a truck dog IMO and don't have a fenced yard so not a good choice at this time. But am intrigued with the breed.........

flyingmusician RIP John 1966-2017 We miss you

I'd never heard of them till today.

We were talking dogs in ecru and the girl in the office said she used to have 3 and she loved them.

well, they at least, they drool less than me...

    Drooling Potential
Drool-prone dogs may drape ropes of slobber on your arm and leave big, wet spots on your clothes when they come over to say hello. If you've got a laid-back attitude toward slobber, fine; but if you're a neatnik, you may want to choose a dog who rates low in the drool department.

They are very protective of what is theirs (aka their peeps and home), they're smart and relatively easy to train. And as they are a short haired breed, they don't shed terribly.

A buddy of mine that lives out in the boonies has a couple of them and they are extremely smart and very protective of their territory but not confrontational. If they know you they are cool but until he tells them it's OK you still don't just go walking up on the porch. I'd have one myself but we already have three indoor dogs including one pit bull/border collie and I don't like to keep outside digs when living in town because I don't think it's fair to them or to the neighborhood.
