back in 2008 and 2009, i was an instructor at a CDL school here in my stat. in the summer of '09, a new part time instructor joined us. now it has been at the very least 8 full years since i seen or heard of this guy, till earlier this month.

he had a full time job at a huge soda company, a teamsters job in fact, great pay and benefits......in fact, i too briefly worked at THAT PLACE TOO,but about 5 years earlier than he started there..!!!!

he went off to be alone (i guess) for whatever reason.

his body was found the other day, a gunshot to the head.

i was not his close friend, just another co-worker, that is all. so we hardly knew each other, then i left the job in the late fall.

in fact, other than lunch time or coffee breaks, i'd hardly see him, as i was a classroom and yard instructor, and he was a road and yard instructor as well. many times, i'd have to give up coffee and lunch breakes for a student that needed extra help.

that doesn't mean both of us in the yard, at the same time on some days, we had much time to get to know each other.

    he was 50 years old.

the newspaper and tv reports of course said of his name, i "knew" the name, but a picture of him 8 years later, and aged somewhat i had doubts. his last name is common here, much like Smith and Jones, so until you have valid proof, you go on a subjective thought only.

todays obit, it was a picture of him younger, and dammit, it was him after all.

now (for me) the wondering as to why he killed himself. health issues? family issues?

no one ever knows in a case of suicide.

again, i only worked with him, we never got to know each other, save your condolences for someone else, (like his family) as i need not .

i am just here to basically ask why.........

i will PM YOU a pic of his face at 50, (his death age/look) and then at say 35-40, the face i knew from our time at the school, which is why i couldn't be sure it was him..

    gimme a minute or two.

Suicide isn't always about mental illness.

Always is a big word so I guess that I technically agree. But just technically.

Well...I am far from mentally ill but had I not found the Dr when I did to help alleviate some of my pain I was on the precipice of it myself. I doubt I would have made it more than a couple of more weeks.

I'm not looking to argue nor the fact you can cite your own case.

Let's just say I will argue the fact that choosing to die due to unbearable pain or lack of quality of life is not what I would consider suicide. My father in law chose to die that way. He passed at 61 instead of staying on medications that possibly kept him alive another 5 years with very little quality of life.

    I don't consider that suicide.

in the end, what ever his troubles were, they are gone now for him, and he is at peace. maybe he tried to get help, maybe his family tried to help, or maybe this was a spur of the moment decision, as he felt there was no hope.

with all suicides, unless a letter spells out the reason(s), we will never know.

RIP Mike, i hardly knew ya, but others did, and they will miss you.
